Our Story
Established on June 15, 1975, Wallenfangs of Green Lake is a family-owned business nestled just north of downtown Green Lake on 24 acres of what was once the historic Thrasher farm, which had long been abandoned when purchased by Nolan and Carletta and then lovingly restored with the help of a family friend and carpenter, Arnold Alvin. Since that humble beginning in 1975, the business has grown from the cheese haus, ice cream parlor, and antiques shop, to include a gallery loft of fine art and furniture. The second and third generations are part of today's operations.
Our grandparents Nolan and Carletta (pictured above) opened the cheese shop in 1975 and when they weren't working in the store or teaching, they loved to travel. Yama (as her grandkids and students knew her by) had an eye for photography and loved to share their adventures on the slide projector with her elementary art students. Papa and Yama taught for 45 years and more than that, they taught many a lesson that we hold dear. Whether we worked in the shop under Papa's guidance, had him in computer class, or were in Yama's art class, there was always a great lesson to be learned.
These photos are from the local newspaper ad when they first opened the shops.
